Rechargeable Repairs

Please look after your home!

The repairs service will carry out most repairs to your Council home. However, there are some repairs you will have to pay for yourself.

The division of responsibility between the landlord and tenant is contained within the Tenancy Agreement also outlined in the Tenants Handbook.

Recharges will be raised for a number of reasons including to

  • recover the cost of work arising from wilful, misuse, neglect, abuse or accidental damage by tenants or visitors to your home,
  • consistently enforce the Conditions of Tenancy,
  • deter misuse or negligence of Council property by future tenants.

When you call the repairs helpline 01259 452000 to report a repair you will be advised if the repair is your responsibility, and if it is, you will be given the charge for the Council to carry out the work.

Before work starts you must sign a repair cost agreement. If you refuse to sign, and the repair isn't a health and safety issue, we will not continue with the repair, and you may be charged for the visit.

Once the work has been completed, we will send an invoice outlining the cost that you are due including VAT. This will be issued within 5 days.

Moving Out

Please note, as in your Tenancy Agreement, we ask that you leave the house and gardens clean and tidy, with all repairs you are responsible for completed before moving out. Please refer to 6.10 in the Tenancy Agreement for further details. If you do not do so, we will recharge you for the works required.
