Equality Impact Assessment

Equality Impact Assessment

The Equality Act 2010 introduced the General Equality Duty (or Public Sector Equality Duty) which requires us to seek to:

  • Eliminate unlawful discrimination, harassment and victimisation and other conduct that is prohibited by the Equality Act 2010
  • Advance equality of opportunity between people who share a relevant protected characteristic and those who do not
  • Foster good relations between people who share a protected characteristic and those who do not

The Fairer Scotland Duty, which came into force in Scotland in April 2018, further requires us to:

  • actively consider how we can reduce inequalities of outcome caused by socioeconomic disadvantage, when making strategic decisions, and
  • to publish a written assessment, showing how we have done this

The Equality Impact Assessment helps to ensure that we fulfil our duties in both respects.
